Abstract(EN): The problem of national minorities in Europe is examined in this book. Despite the common belief that Europe is a conglomeration of ethnically pure states, political and ethnic boundaries in Europe do not coincide, and pockets of different nationalities are scattered throughout the continent. National minorities first became perceived as a problem after WWI, with the political emergence of the "one state - one nation" principle and subsequent establishment of the League of Nations, United Nations, European, and bilateral provisions for the protection of national minorities and religious freedom. These measures appeared to reduce national minority tensions, but the fall of communism resulted in their reemergence. Minority politics in Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, and Greece are discussed.
