Discusses the situation of the transylvanian saxons following the events of 23 august 1944 when Romania changed sides, declaring war on Germany and allied itself with the allied forces. Based on published and unpublished materials, the article analyses the activities of leading political and ecclesiastical figures of transylvanian saxons in their attempt to reduce the bad reputation of the saxon community and their institutions as faithful followers of nazi Germany and the attempts to reconstruct the traditional political, ecclesistical and scholastic institutions. Contains an appendix with original sources.
