Abstract: This film documents writer's Aharon Appelfeld visit in his birth town Dracinetz in Ukraine on June/July 1998 and tells his story as a child in the Holocaust. Appelfeld, laureate of the "Israel Prize", published 24 books that were translated to 28 languages, and is winner of also the "Brenner Prize" and the "Bialik Prize". Here he tells about his wartime experiences: murder of his mother, deportations, Transnistria, Rumanian and Ukrainian collaborators, coldness and the starvation, separation from his father in Transnistria, surviving and immigration to Eretz Israel, relations with the survivors in the days of the establishment of the state, his life as a survivor, his writings in which he tries to retrace the memories of his childhood, the unsympathetic reaction to his writing on the Holocaust, questions that he asked himself on the matter of feelings about his belonging to a nation and national identity.
