Abstract: This documentary is a study of Jewish Shtetl life before the Holocaust. It combines archival film footage and photographs that help to describe the folk stories, parables, and anecdotes, with sequences shot at the sites of former Jewish communities in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. The film includes also a series of images from the photo biographer of Eastern European shtetl life, the late Roman Vishniac. Narration by actors Martin Landau and Miriam Margolyes.
