Abstract: (En) The massive volume (almost 600 pages) is a compilation of mostly novel documents, excerpts from archives as well as from the media of the time, from publications issued in Romanian, English, German, Hebrew and French, being the first source of documentation for historian Carol lancu; the other source is comprised of testimonies from various personalities who lived those historical events and wrote them down for the use of the generations to come after the hard times of the disaster (1940-1944). Facsimiles and illustrations complete the volume which is not meant, of course, to fully approach this complex and overwhelming topic. The possible diversity of the points of view, with various mentions and accents, that almost reach a state of polemic, can only testify to the honesty and value of a research for which a lot of knowledge and willingness were invested, so that only Time and every single reader may judge it.

(Ro) Masivul volum (aproape 600 dc pagini) este o culegere de documente. în bună măsură inedite, extrase din arhive, cum şi din presa epocii abordate, periodicele scrise în limbile română, engleză. germană, ebraică şi franceză, constituind primul pilon al documentaţiei istoricului Carol lancu; celălalt pilon e format din mărturiile provenind de la personalităţi care au trăit evenimentele istorice şi le-au consemnat pentru uzul generaţiilor care aveau să vină după anii urgiei (1940-1944). Facsimile şi ilustraţii completează acest volum care. nu îşi propune, fireşte, tratarea exhaustivă a temei, una pe cât de complexă, pe atât de răscolitoare. Posibila diversitate a punctelor dc vedere, cu accente şi sublinieri aduse până în pragul polemicii, nu au cum tăgădui sinceritatea şi valoarea unei cercetări în care s-au investit strădanii şi competenţe supuse judecăţii Timpului şi fiecărui cititor în parte.
