Abstract: (En) The author, Laura Geala, has a PhD in History and is a researcher at Arhivele Statului in Ploie$ti city. The book is a variant for the public selected from her ..magna cum laude" PhD work . The 200 years history of Ploie§ti community, is closely documented, with attention on the 1900 period, when the Jews had an important role in developing the cultural and economic life of the city. The life of community, the schools, the philanthropic. political, social activities are widely presented alongside with tens of local personality names; it is to be remembered the important role that the Jew enterprisers had in creating and developing of one of the most advanced oil industry in the world at that time.

Cartea este o variantă pentru publicul larg a lucrării sale de doctorat, distinsă cu ..magna cum laude". Istoria comunităţii ploieştenc. cu un orizont de 200 de ani, detaliază mai ales perioada de după 1900, în care evreii au avut un rol important în dezvoltarea economică şi culturală a oraşului. Via(a comunităţii, şcolile, activităţile filantropice, politice, sociale sunt prezentate pe larg, zeci de nume ale unor personalităţi locale apar în paginile acestei cărți, în care este evidenţiat şi rolul de prim rang pe care întreprinzătorii evrei l-au jucat în crearea şi dezvoltarea unei industrii petrolifere aflate atunci printre primele din lume.
