Abstract: (En) The racial legislation marks its debut in Romania during the dictatorship of Carol II. In the beginning of August, 1940, the Law-Decree no. 2650 concerning the judicial status of Jewish inhabitants of Romania inaugurated the road towards the transformation of anti-Semitism into state politics. This Law-Decree, inspired by the racial laws of Nurenberg, ascertains three categories of Jews on which it imposes economic, social, educational and political restrictions. The classification principle is racial (the kinship level) and religious (the affiliation to the mosaic religion). The supporting letter for this law, signed by Minister of Justice Ion. V Gruia, set up the principles of a totalitarian, ethnicist and racial state.
