Abstract: (En) The historiography on Jewish culture has found it challenging to discuss the literary affiliation of the works written by authors of Jewish origin in non-Jewish languages; accepting the general definition of -national literature‖ as the corpus of texts written in the language of the nation, Jewish literature pondered for a long time if its approach should also include the reality of a multi-cultural, modern acculturated Diaspora. Many definitions of Jewish literature therefore preferred to focus on Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino languages, while the works in other languages, as well as Jewish intellectuals themselves, that had assimilated into other cultures represented cases of marginal interest because they were not connected linguistically to Jewish life. Cultural and literary histories and Jewish studies scholarship, however, eventually opened up to include the phenomenon of modernization with its consequence in terms of acculturation and secularization. In order to better understand the two theoretical paradigms in which the inclusive versus exclusive views of Jewish culture were articulated, this article focuses on the debates around significant cultural concepts such as -Jewish writer‖, -Jewish literature‖ and -Jewish intellectual‖.

(Ro) Consecinţă a modernizării şi secularizării, dar şi a influenţei Haskalei, apariţia intelectualilor evrei care creează şi se afirmă în limbi şi culturi neevreieşti a generat o serie de dezbateri conceptuale în istoria intelectuală. Concepte precum „intelectual evreu", „scriitor evreu" şi „literatură evreiască" sunt analizate în contextul aculturării profunde şi al identităţii complexe a individului în modernitate, dar şi în relaţie cu valorile comunitare tradiţionale.
