Abstract: (En) The deportations of Czernowitz Jews to Transnistria resumed in June 1942 and were carried out more systematically and more atrociously than in the fall of 1941. The brutal roundup of Jews took place on the Maccabi stadium, where the authorities performed corporal searches and committed numerous abuses. The lack of humanity impressed the Czernowitz community. The inhumane treatment applied to the Jews by the city police led to the arrest of patients in the Jewish Hospital and to the deportation of the mentally ill. The brutality of the transports to Transnistria was mentioned even in German Consulate reports. Remaining in the city was equivalent to survival, while deportation to Transnistria meant certain death, especially for the elderly, the sick ones, for those who did not have their sources to ensure a minimum of supplies to stay alive.
