Abstract: (En) The yellow „Star of David" was not imposed systematically to the Jews in Romania. At first, regional authorities recommended that the Jews be forced to wear badges inorder to start solving the „Jewish problem" in their administrative county. The Romanian government's policy of forcing Jews to wear badges, was aimed at isolating the Jews from the rest of the population. It enabled the Romanian police and gendarmerie authorities to identify, concentrate, deprive, starve, and ultimately murder the Jews under their control. The yellow badge became mandatory in Romania inSeptember 1941, but the law was cancelled a few days after being issued, due to thedetermined intervention of Dr. Wilhelm Filderman. The Jews of Czernowitz, however, were forced to wear the sign throughout the war, reflecting the policy of Antonescu'sregime in Bukovina and a part of the Holocaust in Romania
