Abstract: (En) The subject of this study originates in Gabriel Bethlen's reign (1613-1629). The privilege he issued on June 18, 1623 in Cluj opened the first page in the history of the Jewish community of Alba Iulia, which was to continue uninterruptedly throughout the following centuries. Prior to 1632, a Jewish presence in Alba Iulia was mentioned in 1591 (Eisler 1901, pp. 5) in a decision written by rabbi Joel Serkes of Krakow (Gluck 1999, pp. 11), which mentioned the existence of a Beth-Din (rabbinic court).
