Abstract: (En) Forced to face the various challenges arising from the modernization process, the Romanian political class had to solve, at the beginning of the 19th century, another problem,
not easy at all, that of the coexistence of various ethnic groups north of the Danube. The relationship that grew remarkable for her dynamism from the middle of the above mentioned
century was that of the Romanians and the Hebrew. The echo of the French Revolution was felt gradually in the Romanian society too, the principles set forth in 1789 finding enough adherents north of the Danube, eager to burn the stages, from here arising, however, some shortfalls that could be easily identified not only at the level of discourse but also at that of the current policies. The explanation for what happened after 1848, year that became also reference point for the tonal change recorded after this year by a good part of the Romanian political elite regarding the otherness' existence in the Romanian Principalities but mainly regarding the Hebrew leaders, can be achieved if we consider the existence of a capitalism found in its inception, some strategic mistakes made by the major political actors and last, but not least, an important difference between their private beliefs and their verbal expression.
