Abstract: (En) The rise of chauvinistic nationalism following the disintegration of the Soviet block and the dissolution of the communist systems had as its corollary the resurgence of virulent anti-Semitism. The traditional religious and racial forms of this scourge were reinforced by new strains, including the denigration or outright denial of the Holocaust. In this volume, experts on the countries of East Central Europe describe and analyze these phenomena from a social science perspective.
Nine essays address the legacy of anti-Semitism; Romanian Jewry during the interwar period; German-Romanian relations during WWII; history and mystification during the Antonescu era; Jews living under the Antonescu regime; communism and neo-communist revisionism; treatment of the Holocaust in Romanian textbooks; the first decade after the Holocaust for Romanian Jewry; and anti-Semitism in the post-communist era.
