Abstract: (En) This paper focuses on the emigration of Romanian Jews and their integration in /assimilation by the Israeli society. It is a qualitative research paper, which looks at the role of Hebrew language in the process of integration of Romanian immigrants as they were assimilated by the Israeli society. It answers to the conclusions of mainstream literature and brings in an insight concerning the aspects of their integration in connection with the learning process and the use of Hebrew language in activities of their social and professional lives.
It also looks at how different ideologies of immigration or the reasons for immigration affect attitudes towards assimilation, which was reflected in the manner they talk about learning Hebrew. I also discuss about their family members, with a specific focus on their children in acquiring their Hebrew language skill.
The research is based on nine interviews conducted with Romanian Jews who immigrated to Israel at different periods. This paper is made up of several parts: the first part is a theoretical one focused on language and its role in the process of integration/assimilation of immigrants. This part is a review of the literature that guided me during the interviews.
The second part focuses on the methodological aspects of the research, so general insights of the background of the interviews are discussed also as I refer to technical aspects involved in this research. The third part of this paper is the largest one; it introduces and discusses the results of my research.
The last part refers to the concluding remarks, in addition to critiques.
