Synopsis: (HUN) Van egy meseszép falu Romániában, Verespatak (Roşia Montană). Sok száz éves épületek, földjükhöz, házaikhoz, templomaikhoz, halottaikhoz ragaszkodó emberek. A környező hegyek 300 tonna aranyat és 1600 tonna ezüstöt rejtenek. A kanadai-román cég, a Roşia Montană Gold Corporation külszíni fejtésű aranybányát akar nyitni itt. Világszínvonalú technológiát ígérnek. Az embereket új, modern otthonokba költöztetik. Régi házaikat megveszik és lebontják. Lenne arany. Lenne ezüst. Lenne egy több száz hektáros cianidos zagytározó is, 180 m magas gáttal. Csak Verespatak és a környező hegyek tűnnének el a föld színéről.
(EN) The Canadian-Romanian Rosia Montana Gold Corporation wants to open the largest gold mine of Europe in Rosia Montana. The mountains surrounding the village are planned to be exploded in fifteen years by using 20 tons of dynamite a day. They would build a 800-hectare reservoir for cyanide-contaminated waste water. People from four villages - almost 2,000 souls - would have to leave their lands, homes, churches, cemeteries and their past. The historic monuments and archeological treasures of Rosia Montana, the oldest settlement in Romania, would be destroyed. Terrain preparation, the purchase and destruction of houses have already begun, even though Rosia Montana Gold Corporation has not even been granted permission from the Romanian government to initiate the project. Most of the people wish to stay. As they say, "we'd rather die than to go away from here". (Forrás)
