The Banat was one of the major issues under debate at the PeaceConference in Paris, at the end of World Was I. It would actually countamong the problems with double connotation to be settled by the greatpowers. On one hand, the Banat would experience the territorial division andreshaping typical of the disintegration of great empires. On the other hand, developments in the region would follow the policy of the great powerstowards two prominent states in the Balkan area: Romania and Serbia. Decisions reached at the Peace Conference, .namely within the Commissionfor Romanian and Yugoslavian Affairs mirrored the position taken by thegreat powers toward the two states, an excellent example in this respect beingthe talks concerning the establishing of the Romanian-Serbian borderline inthe area of the Banat.
